James Murty is a software developer with extensive experience creating web-based applications and architectures. With a working background spanning a research institute, a small software house and various corporations, he has a broad perspective on both the potential and the pitfalls in building networked applications.

He hails from Australia but currently lives in Portland, OR, USA.

2009 to now – Senior Developer for Kavi

Building and maintaining an online collaboration suite for standards organisations.

2008 – Freelance Web Application Development

Integrated Amazon’s infrastructure web services into Ruby on Rails web applications.

2008 – Web Developer for Online Agility

Developed a shop-front web site, custom data-management web
application, and supporting libraries using Python and the Django
framework.

2007 to 2008 – Freelance Writing for O’Reilly

Authorship of a programming manual for the cloud-based infrastructure services provided by Amazon Web Services: Programming Amazon Web Services: S3, EC2, SQS, FPS, and SimpleDB

2005 to 2007 – Consultancies for Axe Group

Analysis, design, development and documentation of a range of projects for corporations in the telecommunications, banking and insurance sectors. Implementation and support of production systems using J2EE and TIBCO technologies.

2003 to 2005 – Axe Group

Development of J2EE systems for companies in the general insurance and health insurance industries, working on in-house projects and on-site with corporate clients.

2000 to 2003 – CSIRO (Commonwealth Science and Industrial Research Organisation)

Implementation of proof-of-concept multi-tier distributed Java web applications to make data resources and data-manipulation tools available on-line.
